Preparatory year (CMS)

The Preparatory year (CMS) is a one-year programme at EPFL designed to strengthen competencies in basic sciences before beginning a Bachelor's degree. It covers analysis, geometry, linear algebra, physics, computer science, chemistry and related laboratory/exercise work, and is taught in French. Students enrolled have full student rights at EPFL, including access to campus services and free French classes at the Language Center.

Direct access (subject to availability) for holders of a Swiss “maturité gymnasiale” or vocational/specialized “maturité”; other candidates must meet specific admission requirements and must successfully pass the CMS or the entrance exam.

Holders of a Swiss maturité may directly integrate a Bachelor program (subject to availability); other candidates must meet specific admission requirements and either pass the CMS or the entrance exam.
