Major Instrumentation Initiative: Electron Diffractometers for Structural Elucidation

A DFG Major Instrumentation Initiative inviting proposals for the provision and early evaluation of electron diffractometers (EDs) at German universities to explore their scientific potential in structural elucidation. The call funds procurement of EDs and may also cover additional staff and direct costs for up to five years, as well as workshops and public-relations activities related to the instrument. Proposals must demonstrate the necessary scientific and technical expertise, document the research environment, and allocate at least 25% of ED time to external research groups. Institutions must appoint a responsible spokesperson to coordinate operation and access.

Applicant institutions are universities (including universities of applied sciences). The university must appoint a single responsible spokesperson for the proposal; proposals may involve multiple research groups and affiliated research institutions.

Non-binding letter of intent by e-mail to the DFG wgi address by 2026-05-05; full proposals must be submitted solely via the elan portal by 2026-06-02. The spokesperson must be registered in elan prior to submission (set up by 2026-05-26 if first-time user).
