German Ernst Ludwig Ehrlich PhD Scholarship 2027

The German Ernst Ludwig Ehrlich PhD Scholarship provides a fully funded doctoral fellowship with a monthly stipend and research support, targeted at Jewish doctoral candidates and non-Jewish researchers whose work significantly engages with Jewish subjects. Scholars receive mentorship and participate in a structured academic and cultural programme during funding. The programme supports early-career doctoral researchers and requires German language proficiency at B2 level.

Mentoring, access to an academic and cultural programme, and an annual Forum for Doctoral Candidates to network and present work; potential extensions for researchers with children and research stays abroad.

Jewish doctoral candidates can apply across essentially all disciplines except medicine; non-Jewish doctoral candidates may apply if their research focuses on a Jewish subject and they are typically conducting the work at a German university.

Submit an online application via the ELES online portal, including a dissertation exposé, motivation letter and CV, engagement evidence, and references; apply within the September 1–30, 2026 window.
