Personal circumstances scholarships

The Personal circumstances scholarships are means-tested awards for UK applicants to level one of full-time funded undergraduate degree courses at the University of Leeds. Awards are targeted at applicants from less-advantaged backgrounds and those with specific personal circumstances that have disrupted studies. Recipients may also be considered for School of Design scholarships which include specified maintenance payments and tuition fee discounts for named courses. Scholarship recipients gain access to additional support including one-to-one advice, workshops, mentoring and associated wellbeing and administrative support.

Maintenance payments and/or tuition fee discounts for certain School of Design courses, additional support including one-to-one advice, group workshops, mentoring opportunities, social events and monthly newsletters; eligibility to apply for NHS Low Income Scheme (HC2) support where applicable.

UK students with no prior higher education who apply for entry in 2026 into level one of a full-time funded undergraduate degree at the University of Leeds, liable for full UK undergraduate fees, eligible to receive a UK student maintenance loan, and from a household with assessed annual income of £42,875 or below. Applicants must not be due to receive another scholarship or bursary.

Applicants must apply by the scholarship deadline and complete a student finance application choosing household income assessment; completing the Personal circumstances scholarship application will allow consideration for linked School of Design scholarships. Scholarship offers are made through the University’s separate assessment process.
