mBio Early-Career Editorial Board 2027–2028

The mBio Early-Career Editorial Board (ECB) is a professional development programme by the American Society for Microbiology that provides emerging researchers with peer-review experience, mentorship from experienced editors and training in scholarly publishing. The two-phase programme includes a three-month training phase followed by twelve months of mentored manuscript reviewing. It aims to strengthen early-career researchers’ editorial and evaluative skills and to support their progression in the scientific publishing ecosystem.

Structured training in peer review and publication ethics; practical experience evaluating manuscripts; personalised feedback from editors; mentorship and professional development discussions; improved writing and communication skills; exposure to editorial responsibilities.

The programme is designed for early-career researchers in the sciences, with encouragement for applicants from groups underrepresented in the sciences; detailed eligibility criteria are provided in official guidelines.
