DOC (Doktorand:innenprogramm der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften)

The DOC programme is a doctoral fellowship by the Austrian Academy of Sciences that funds highly qualified doctoral researchers across all fields of basic research. It provides a personal stipend to enable concentrated work on a dissertation over a fixed period. Fellowships are awarded for 24 to 36 months and are linked to conducting a doctoral/PhD study at a university in Austria. The programme includes cooperation possibilities (short research stays/fellowships) with partner institutes for certain disciplines.

Personal stipend of EUR 38,000 per year for 24–36 months; opportunities for six-month research stays/fellowships with partner institutes (e.g., IWM, IFK) including a workplace and, for some partners, additional offerings such as daily lunch and participation in fellows' programmes.

Open to highly qualified doctoral candidates conducting a doctoral/PhD study at a university in Austria. Applications are possible before the start or within the first year after commencement of the doctoral/PhD studies (reference date 1 July of the application year); the applicant's master's degree must be completed by the submission deadline and not older than two years (reference date 1 July of the application year). Applicants must meet at least two of three research-related criteria (publication, scientific mobility, scientific engagement).
