Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars and Professionals (SUSI)

The Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars and Professionals (SUSI) are intensive four-week postgraduate academic residencies with an additional integrated study tour in the United States. They are designed for university faculty, scholars, and related professionals to deepen understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions and to strengthen U.S.-related curricula at home institutions. Participants take part in lectures, seminars, and site visits tied to each Institute’s theme. The Institutes aim to enable participants to develop or enhance courses and seminars on U.S. studies in their home institutions.

International and visa travel costs and allowances; domestic travel and ground transportation; housing and subsistence; book, cultural, mailing and incidental allowances; U.S. Department of State supplemental health benefit for program duration.

Mid-career scholars and professionals (typically ages 30–50) from institutions of higher education or research-focused organisations with graduate degrees and substantial knowledge of the Institute’s thematic area. U.S. citizens and permanent residents are not eligible; previous SUSI participants and relatives of U.S. embassy or Fulbright Finland employees are ineligible.
