Einstein Postdoctoral Grant

The Einstein Postdoctoral Grant is a fellowship programme funding postdoctoral researchers to work at Berlin host institutions. It supports researchers in a critical career phase (R2–R3) to carry out an independent research project, strengthen their ties to the Berlin research environment and increase their prospects for permanent academic positions. Funding is available in three variants (Starting Researcher, Independent Researcher, Professorship Track) with typical durations up to four years (and up to five years in the Professorship Track). Eligible host institutions in Berlin submit applications on behalf of candidates.

Funding of a postdoctoral research position for up to four (or in the Professorship Track up to five) years; possibility to fund project-relevant material costs and, depending on variant, small research groups or personnel within specified limits; title associated with the fellowship (e.g. Einstein Starting Researcher, Einstein Independent Researcher, Einstein Research Professor).

Applications must be submitted by one of the eligible Berlin host institutions (Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Universität der Künste Berlin, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin). Candidates are postdoctoral researchers (career levels R2–R3) including international applicants; eligibility windows for years since PhD differ by variant (e.g. Starting Researcher: PhD ≤4 years; Independent Researcher: PhD generally 4–12 years; Professorship Track: PhD generally 4–10 years).

Eligible Berlin host institutions submit applications on behalf of candidates; an application form is provided by the foundation.
