Discovery Research Senior Fellowship

The Discovery Research Senior Fellowship is a competitive research fellowship supporting leaders in cardiovascular research to progress towards leading larger-scale programme grants and securing professorship funding. Awards support outstanding hypothesis-testing research with the potential to improve patient outcomes in cardiovascular disease. Fellowships may be awarded for up to five years (or equivalent part-time duration) and require a position at an eligible host institution that will underwrite 50% of the fellow’s salary. The scheme is open to non-clinical scientists across a range of disciplines, including bench scientists, epidemiologists, data scientists, geneticists, engineers and behavioural scientists.

50% salary contribution; funding for up to two associated posts; research consumables and essential equipment; discretionary development fund; travel fund for meetings; caring-costs contribution; return travel for fellow and dependants; possible healthcare and housing contributions.

Applicants should be established postdoctoral investigators (often having held a mid-career/intermediate discovery research postdoctoral fellowship), usually having established an independent research group with a record of impactful first/last author papers and substantial grant income. Applicants must hold (or be moving to) a position at an eligible host institution which will underwrite 50% of their salary; applicants must not have held a tenured position at the host institution for more than two years. The scheme is open to international applicants and to scientists returning from industry or from a career break.
