Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship Program 2026-2027

The Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship is an 11-month fellowship designed to develop understanding of effective solutions to hunger and poverty in the United States. Fellows participate in an orientation in Washington, D.C., spend five months with community-based organizations across the United States, then complete a second placement with organizations and government agencies focused on national anti-hunger and anti-poverty policy, accompanied by trainings, retreats, and professional development.

Financial stipend of at least $50,000 for the 11-month fellowship, membership in a learning community of fellows, access to an alumni network, opportunities to work with community and policy leaders, training, mentoring, leadership development, and project management experience.

U.S. citizenship or permanent legal residency is required, along with a commitment to ending hunger and poverty in the United States and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Prepare and submit a single PDF containing a resume, a one-page personal statement, and a one-page response to essay questions; include the three requested documents as a single submission.
