BIOL 497: African Savannah Biology is a short-term, credit-bearing field course that takes students to the Maasai Mara/Serengeti ecosystem in Kenya for hands-on ecological research and training. The course includes instruction in the scientific method, field data collection and analysis, science communication, wildlife photography and short-film production. Participants undertake individual or group research projects while living at a remote camp and engage with local Maasai communities. The course carries 3 academic credits and integrates field ecology with outreach and presentation of scientific results.

Prerequisite: any applicable life-science, environmental, ANSC, or ANTH course and consent of instructor, and completion of the on-campus BIOL 497: African Savannah Biology offered in the preceding fall semester.
