UBC International Scholars Program

The UBC International Scholars Program is an undergraduate scholarship programme for exceptional international students entering their first undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia. Awards are need-and-merit-based and recognise academic achievement, leadership and community contribution. The programme comprises four award categories (Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award, Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award, International Impact Award and Vantage One Excellence Award) and includes academic, personal and career support for scholars. Awards are assessed through a financial need assessment and may include substantial assistance toward tuition and living expenses; the Vantage One Excellence Award can be worth up to the full cost of a student’s program and living expenses.

Financial assistance toward tuition and living expenses (amounts vary by need and award); dedicated International Scholars advising, academic and personal development support, career guidance, skill-building workshops, leadership development, scholar retreats, access to exchange and co-op opportunities and over 200 hours of developmental workshops and one-on-one support.

International students applying to enter UBC directly from an accredited secondary school for their first undergraduate degree; eligibility may vary by campus and program with some degree exclusions.

Applicants must first apply for admission to UBC and then complete the International Scholars award application; applications for the September 2027 intake are scheduled to open in early October 2026.
