SPARK@COS

SPARK@COS is an outreach programme run by the Centre for Organismal Studies (COS) at Heidelberg University that brings school pupils into contact with modern life-science research. It comprises short formats such as an Explorer Day combining hands-on activities with career orientation and a two-week Practical in which upper-secondary pupils work on their own developmental-biology projects in the laboratory. Participants carry out experiments, use microscopes and experience day-to-day work at a research institute.

Hands-on laboratory experience, microscopy and experimental practice, work on individual scientific projects, insights into research careers and vocational orientation.

School pupils, with the Explorer Day targeting pupils from Realschule, Gemeinschaftsschule and Gesamtschule and the Practical aimed at upper-secondary (Oberstufe) pupils.
