ASLA‑Fulbright Pre‑Doctoral Research Fellows Program

The ASLA‑Fulbright Pre‑Doctoral Research Fellows Program provides grants for doctoral students registered at Finnish universities to conduct pre‑doctoral research in the United States for 4–12 months. The grants are intended for research (not course attendance) and require an invitation letter from a U.S. host institution. The programme is co‑funded by the Fulbright Finland Foundation and the grantee's home university and includes advising, orientation and enrichment opportunities.

Grant up to USD 18,000; personal advising and guidance; J‑1 visa sponsorship (and J‑2 for dependents); orientation training; networking and Fulbright enrichment activities; access to Fulbright alumni network; extra support available for grantees with disabilities.

Doctoral students registered at a Finnish university who are well advanced in their studies and seeking to carry out pre‑doctoral research in the U.S.; an invitation letter from a U.S. host institution must be attached to the application.

Applicants submit an online application (IIE portal) with an invitation letter from a U.S. host institution and supporting documents; the grants are part of a cost‑share programme with participating Finnish universities.
