FEBS Excellence Award

The FEBS Excellence Award is a competitive research award supporting early-career group leaders working in the molecular life sciences. Awards provide €100,000 to be spent over three years on research equipment and consumables. The funding is restricted to purchases of small equipment (with a maximum of €15,000 for any single piece) and consumables; salaries, stipends and overheads are not eligible. The scheme is open to applicants who meet FEBS membership and host-institution requirements and is administered annually by FEBS.

€100,000 for equipment and consumables over three years (with small equipment capped at €15,000); project support as specified in the Project Proposal.

Applicants should be early-career group leaders who obtained their PhD within the past eight years, have worked in a different country for at least two years prior to current employment, be employed in a salaried capacity as a group leader by the Host Institution for at least one year prior to submission, have FEBS Constituent Society membership, and have a Host Institution established in a country with a FEBS Constituent Society. Candidates must have secured future financial support at the Host Institution for the three-year duration of the Award.

Web-based application requiring general applicant details, a Project Proposal (up to ten A4 pages plus timetable), host institution statement and letter of support, external referee letter, and a signed Letter of Agreement uploaded through the application portal.
