Discovery Research Early Career Fellowship

The Discovery Research Early Career Fellowship is a funded fellowship to support outstanding early career researchers to develop independent research leadership in cardiovascular science. Awards support hypothesis-testing research with the potential to improve outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease. Fellowships are for up to four years (or equivalent part-time) and may include salary and support for a research technician or assistant. The scheme accepts applicants from cardiovascular backgrounds as well as those transitioning from other disciplines or industry, including international and career-re-entry candidates.

Applicant salary; salary for a part-time research technician or research assistant (subject to justification); support to spend up to 1.5 years overseas or at a second UK institution if justified; mentoring and access to host institution resources.

Applicants should be in the final year of their PhD or have no more than four years of postdoctoral research experience from the date of their PhD award; eligibility may be extended for career breaks. The scheme is open to non-clinician scientists working on cardiovascular research (including bench scientists, epidemiologists, data scientists, geneticists, engineers, behavioural scientists and others), scientists returning from industry, career re-entry applicants and international applicants planning to come to the UK.
