The Gates Foundation AI Fellows Program 2027 for young African Innovators

The Gates Foundation AI Fellows Program 2027 is a 12-month, limited-term employment position based in select African cities. The program aims to accelerate responsible and impactful use of AI in global health, development, and education, with fellows working on high-priority projects across the foundation’s Africa team. Fellows join a cohort of AI talent to implement prototypes, tools, and analyses that advance the foundation’s mission and gain access to a broad professional network.

Salary as a paid 12-month position with exposure to AI for public good, collaboration across multiple divisions, mentorship from leaders in AI, and access to a global network.

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Applied Math or a relevant field and have at least 2 years of experience applying AI solutions, preferably in health or agricultural systems.
