Shanghai Sci-tech Co-research Program

The Shanghai Sci-tech Co-research Program is a funding initiative by the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality that supports foreign young scientists to conduct joint research with Shanghai-based institutions. Selected projects receive a fixed grant of RMB 400,000 for a two-year research period focused on high-risk, high-value basic research and frontier technologies. Projects must be hosted by a legal entity or unincorporated organisation registered in Shanghai and involve a cumulative research stay in Shanghai of at least six months. Applications are submitted online by the Shanghai host organisation and evaluated by a one-round panel review.

Fixed RMB 400,000 grant for a two-year project; host organisation may assign program assistants to support application and project management; access to collaboration with Shanghai-based research institutions and the city’s research environment.

Applicants must hold a foreign nationality, hold a PhD in natural sciences or engineering from a world-class university or internationally renowned research institution, be under 45 years old, hold a formal teaching or research position at an overseas university/research institution or corporate R&D department, and not be employed full-time in China or serve as a legal representative of a Chinese enterprise. Applicants must collaborate with a Shanghai host organisation and are required to conduct research in Shanghai for at least six cumulative months including one continuous stay of at least three months.
