Commonwealth PhD Scholarships 2027–28

The Commonwealth PhD Scholarship is a fully funded doctoral programme in the United Kingdom for researchers who cannot otherwise afford doctoral study. Applicants must obtain nomination through national agencies or participating organisations and plan a three-year doctoral project aligned with development themes. The scholarship covers approved tuition fees, return airfare and a monthly living allowance, with potential additional support for study travel, thesis-related costs and eligible family circumstances.

Applicants must be citizens of or have qualifying refugee status in an eligible Commonwealth country and ordinarily reside there; nomination through a national nominating agency is required; applicants should normally hold at least a 2:1 honours degree or its international equivalent and must not be registered for a PhD at a UK or home country university before September/October 2026.
