USAAAO National Astronomy Competition (First Round) 2026

The USAAAO First Round is the initial stage of the US National Astronomy Competition leading to the National Astronomy Competition (NAC) and selection for the US IOAA team. The exam is proctored in-person at the student's school and covers introductory astronomy and astrophysics topics. Successful participants may qualify for the NAC, national medals, training camp, and possible selection to represent the US at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Opportunity to qualify for the National Astronomy Competition (NAC), national medals, training camp qualification, and potential selection for the US IOAA team; exam resources and solutions are provided.

Any student is welcome to participate, but only US citizens or permanent residents can represent the US at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Complete the First Round registration form; the form must be completed by the exam proctor at the student's school. Exams are proctored in-person.
