Bourse d'excellence IN de Wallonie-Bruxelles International

The Bourse d'excellence IN is a post-doctoral fellowship programme by Wallonie-Bruxelles International that supports high-level foreign researchers for research stays at higher education institutions in the French-speaking community of Belgium. It funds both long-term stays (minimum one year, renewable once) and short-term stays (1–3 months) and accepts all disciplines while giving priority to competitiveness clusters such as aeronautics, space and life sciences. The programme aims to strengthen scientific collaborations between francophone Belgium and international partners.

Monthly stipend of EUR 2,120; round-trip economy flight; comprehensive insurance; possibility of one renewal for long-term stays.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree from a foreign institution (applications possible while doctoral degree is pending, with proof required by 2026-07-15 for long-term grants); must not have stayed or worked in Belgium for more than 12 months within the last 3 years; must have an official invitation letter from a francophone Belgian university; present an excellent post-doctoral research project; a maximum of three application attempts per researcher is allowed.

Submit a single PDF dossier by email to the official WBI address; two recommendation letters must be sent directly by referees to WBI; dossiers are evaluated by peer review and a selection jury; final decisions are notified in early June for long-term grants and accepted candidates must confirm within 7 calendar days.
