NEH Fellowships 2026

The NEH Fellowships program provides six to twelve months of full‑time research support to experienced humanities scholars, enabling publication or development of major scholarly outputs. It offers a stipend and total funding to allow researchers to focus on archival work, writing, or project development, with emphasis on American history, American culture, and Western civilization. The program targets mid‑career and senior scholars who have completed formal professional training and are ready to undertake advanced humanities research.

Full-time, funded research period; opportunity to produce scholarly outputs such as books, articles, or digital humanities resources; time away from teaching and other duties.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or foreign nationals who have lived in the United States for at least three years before the application deadline, must have completed formal professional training such as a PhD or equivalent, and must propose a humanities research project with potential scholarly impact.
