IHS AI Workforce Faculty Research Grant Program 2027

The IHS AI Workforce Faculty Research Grant Program supports faculty-led research on how artificial intelligence affects work, including employment, productivity, occupational change, economic opportunity and innovation. It funds short- to medium-term project expenses tied to concrete research outputs such as peer-reviewed articles, policy white papers, or shareable research databases. Awards are project-based and intended to cover direct research and dissemination costs rather than salaries, tuition, living allowances or institutional overhead. The advertised maximum award is up to $20,000, with larger awards considered for exceptional proposals with justification.

Direct project funding (up to $20,000), support for research personnel, purchase of data and software licenses, archival and field research travel when justified, conference travel for scheduled presentations, and publishing and dissemination costs.

Academic scholars and faculty researchers who are principal investigators or equivalent academic staff affiliated with a university, college, research centre, or comparable institution able to receive and administer external project funds. Independent researchers must confirm an institutional affiliation prior to applying.

Applicants must submit a project plan with explicit deliverables, an itemised budget limited to allowable expenses, and a schedule of deliverables tied to requested support. Requests above the standard maximum require additional justification and review.
