Romanell-Phi Beta Kappa Professorship in Philosophy

The Romanell-Phi Beta Kappa Professorship is an annual award recognizing distinguished achievement and contribution or potential contribution to the public understanding of philosophy. The professorship comprises a series of three public lectures to be delivered at or near the recipient’s home institution. The recipient receives a stipend and may prepare the lectures for publication in an Oxford University Press monograph series of Romanell Lectures.

Stipend of $7,500; opportunity to give three public lectures; potential publication of the lectures in the Oxford University Press Romanell Lectures series; up to $1,500 support for lecture costs and $1,500 to the nominating chapter.

Scholars in the field of philosophy may be nominated by a Phi Beta Kappa chapter officer; a nominee need not be a Phi Beta Kappa member. Each chapter may submit one nomination per cycle and nominations remain in the three-year rolling candidate pool if not selected.

A Phi Beta Kappa chapter officer completes an online 3-year rolling nomination form and submits supporting materials (CV, two letters of support, lecture series outline, and explanatory statement). Chapters submit one nomination per cycle via the online form.
