Fully Funded Research Scholarship in Germany 2026

The Early Career Rescue Fellowship offers fully funded postdoctoral placements in Germany for early-career researchers whose work faces political or institutional restrictions, with a two-year duration across three host institutes. It provides a substantial salary, research infrastructure, and additional support such as mobility allowances, family assistance, accommodation help, and language courses. The programme is targeted at scholars whose research cannot be continued in the USA due to actual restrictions and includes an opportunity to pursue research at one of the host institutes in Germany.

Salary up to ~€6,000 per month (pre-tax) plus social and health contributions; research infrastructure; mobility allowance; family support; accommodation assistance; language courses.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree and 1 to 7 years of post-doctoral experience at the time of application, and must not hold a permanent professorship. Applicants must demonstrate that their research cannot be continued in the USA due to actual political restrictions or provide a referee letter confirming threat to their research.
