Young Scholars Research Program

A research program for exceptional high school students that places participants on cutting-edge research projects with faculty mentors and guides them in scholarly paper writing and publication. Program tracks cover topics such as bioinformatics, biomedical science, AI and data science, astronomy data analysis, environmental and energy science, and political science. Formats include remote, in-person, and hybrid options and projects may last between four weeks and four months. Participants work individually or in interdisciplinary teams and may present their work at a conference and compete for prizes.

Dedicated faculty mentorship, opportunity to conduct and publish professional research papers, presentation at a conference with prizes, and bus transportation to GMU campuses for on-site activities.

Designed for outstanding high school students in grades 9–12; the program is also designed for high school students (grades 9–12) and college freshmen, though age requirements may vary by program.

Submit a single file containing resume, research experience, awards, and application named with full name and program name; faculty review matches students to projects and decisions are typically sent within 2–4 weeks.
