International Linguistics Olympiad

The International Linguistics Olympiad is an annual international competition for secondary school students that challenges participants with puzzles on language structure, grammar, culture and history. It is hosted in a different country each year and traditionally takes place between late July and mid-August. Problems require logical analysis and problem-solving rather than prior formal knowledge of linguistics. The event brings together national teams and experts in the field.

Automatic scoring and a public leaderboard; top submissions may be invited to human evaluation by the IOL jury and reviewed on equal footing with contestants.

Secondary school students (participation is organised via national olympiads and national teams).
