Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young Africans

The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young Africans is a fully funded professional and leadership development programme for young African leaders. It combines a six-week Leadership Institute in the United States with a concluding Summit in Washington, D.C., and an optional four-week Professional Development Experience at a U.S. NGO, business, or government agency. The fellowship supports leadership development in three tracks: Leadership in Business, Civic Engagement, and Public Management, with extensive networking and alumni opportunities.

J-1 visa support; round-trip travel to the United States; housing and meals; six-week Leadership Institute; concluding Summit in Washington, D.C.; optional four-week Professional Development Experience; limited health benefits.

Open to young African leaders who are typically between 25 and 35 years old on submission; applicants must be non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents, proficient in English, and from eligible African countries.
