ICU Global Youth Essay Competition 2024

The ICU Global Youth Essay Competition 2024 invites youths from around the world to submit English-language essays on topics related to human rights and current events. Essays should reflect the writer's original ideas and personal experience, with a focus on how to make society better. Prizes include travel to Japan and cash or gift materials for winners and runners-up.

Top prize: two round-trip airline tickets to Tokyo for the winner and a guardian (ICU trip included) or 100,000 yen. Second prize: 50,000 yen gift card. Third prize: copy of the Illustrated Universal Declaration of Human Rights in multiple languages. Special prize for those with limited English education: same as third prize.

Open to youths from around the world aged 14-18 as of October 9, 2024; must currently reside outside of Japan; university/college students are ineligible.

Essays must address one of the provided topics and be original work.
