Opportunity Universe is a free, multilingual database of scholarships, fellowships, grants, competitions and academic programmes for students and young professionals. It exists because information about these opportunities is scattered across thousands of separate websites, published in dozens of languages, and rarely reaches the people who would benefit from it most. Our mission is to make that information complete, current and accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live or who they know.
The platform is operated by an automated discovery and extraction pipeline rather than a small editorial desk. It monitors established opportunity platforms, reads the websites of universities, foundations, ministries and non-governmental organisations directly, and runs internet-wide searches in 25 languages. Every record is structured, deduplicated across its sources, scored for confidence and linked to the original application page. The methodology page documents each stage of that process in detail. The founders spent years relying on opportunity databases as applicants and later as programme organisers, and repeatedly ran into the same limitation. Every existing service covered a fraction of what was available, refreshed slowly, and worked mainly in English. The vision behind Opportunity Universe was to build the one universal database instead: a single index that uses the search and language technologies now available to cover the entire landscape, in every major language, with an interface that makes it genuinely usable. Opportunity Universe is developed by Edu.Harbour, an organisation that builds educational infrastructure used by students, schools and universities worldwide. The project was initiated and developed in 2025 and opened to the public shortly afterwards. Since launch the number of users has grown very rapidly, and the database has expanded from a few hundred verified entries to the figures shown below. Development continues in the open: the methodology, the sources we read and the comparison with other databases are all published on this website.
