The IWMF Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award 2026 honors the life and work of Anja Niedringhaus and recognizes courageous work by women photojournalists. The award is open to women, nonbinary and gender nonconforming journalists who work as journalists full-time. The winner is publicly honored and receives a cash prize of $20,000.

Eligibility

Open to women, nonbinary and gender nonconforming journalists who work as a journalist full-time; freelancers and those affiliated with media organizations are eligible.

Application

Nomination or self-nomination with a statement and a portfolio consisting of 12 photographs; nomination may be by editor, mentor or journalist peer.
