The Avery Review Essay Prize 2026 is an international essay competition organized by the Office of Publications at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. It invites undergraduate and master’s students and recent graduates to submit critical essays focusing on architectural subjects, with prize money and publication in The Avery Review’s June 2026 issue.

Eligibility
Open to current undergraduate and master’s students, as well as recent graduates. Applicants may be enrolled in schools of architecture or in other academic disciplines, and students from any field that takes architecture as a subject are eligible.
Application
Submit a 3,000–4,500 word critical essay (with a separate PDF containing 6–8 images) via email to editors@averyreview.com.
