Applied Methods of Social Science Research (MA)

The Master of Arts in Applied Methods of Social Research (AMSR) is a two-semester, English-language master's programme offered at Marburg University. It equips students with advanced, research-oriented methodological expertise in the social sciences and culminates in a Master’s thesis. The programme is designed for those aiming to pursue PhD-level study, with focus on both research design and practical application across fields such as inequality, digital societies, and international politics and conflict.

Semester fee includes mandatory student union membership and a free travel pass for public transport in Hesse and beyond, as well as access to subsidised accommodation and meals.

Applicants must hold a relevant Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences or a comparable foreign degree with a final grade of at least 2.7 (German grading system). If the final degree is not available by the application deadline, provisional enrolment may be allowed. Social Science Methods requirement includes at least 10 ECTS credits in social science methods, including at least 5 ECTS credits in quantitative methods and/or statistics.
