Wellcome Career Development Awards

The Wellcome Career Development Awards provide funding for mid-career researchers to lead substantial, innovative research programmes that make key contributions to their field and benefit health-related research. Awards typically support research costs for a programme of work and usually run for up to eight years. The scheme expects award holders to develop research leadership, support research training, and achieve international standing by the end of the award. Applications are for individual lead applicants; coapplicants are not accepted.

Applicants must be mid-career researchers ready to lead a substantial research programme, having completed one or two substantial periods of research after initial research training and having made important contributions to their area. Applicants must be able to contribute at least 80% of their research time to the award and meet specified contractual conditions regarding salary and appointments.
