Information

The University of Copenhagen is offering a fully funded three-year PhD scholarship under the ERC-funded project Before the Image – The Political Ontology of Images for Legal and Social Justice. The PhD candidate will conduct ethnographic research related to images documenting violence and human rights abuses, visual literacy, and open-source investigation methods, with an emphasis on truth, evidence, and justice. The position includes integration with a multidisciplinary team and opportunities for public-facing dissemination, including an interactive exhibition component.

Eligibility

Applicants should hold qualifications equivalent to a Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Human Rights or related areas) and demonstrate ethnographic methods experience, interest in visual culture and justice, and English-language proficiency.
