The Bayreuth International Graduate School for African Studies (BIGSAS) at the University of Bayreuth in Germany offers the DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP) to support outstanding African women scholars to pursue doctoral research within BIGSAS. The scholarship provides full funding for up to four years, plus access to BIGSAS resources, an international academic network, and a German language course in summer 2025. Two scholarships are available, targeted at African women researchers on the African continent.

Eligibility

African women scholars who hold a Master’s or equivalent degree, not resident in Germany for more than 15 months prior to the start, and proficient in English, German, or French (English as primary working language).

Application

Apply through the BIGSAS application pathway via the BayDOC portal; submit required documents including supervision agreement, research proposal, motivation letter, CV, language proof, and letters of recommendation.
