Robert A. Belfer International Affairs Fellowship in European Security 2026-2027

The Robert A. Belfer International Affairs Fellowship in European Security seeks to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between rising generations of leaders and thinkers in Europe and the United States. The program enables mid-career U.S. professionals to spend up to twelve months conducting research and working in Europe at a think tank, university, government agency, or international organization on issues pertaining to European security. Fellows receive a stipend and are independent contractors rather than employees of CFR.

Stipend of $120,000 for up to twelve months and a travel grant; opportunity to conduct research and placements in Europe with a think tank, university, government agency, or international organization.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, mid-career professionals with a strong record of achievement and an interest in foreign policy and European security, and hold at least a bachelor’s degree.

Submit basic biographical and professional information, a project proposal with proposed placements, and two letters of support.
