The KITLV Visiting Fellowship 2026 is a three-month research residency in the Netherlands for scholars working in Southeast Asian or Caribbean Studies. Fellows will be based in Leiden and work on a publication, manuscript, or independent research project. The programme provides financial support for travel and living costs, access to KITLV facilities, and institutional backing to accelerate the research.

Eligibility

Hold a PhD in Social Sciences or Humanities; research related to Southeast Asian and/or Caribbean Studies; willing to base the research at KITLV Leiden for the full three-month period; not a tax resident of the Netherlands; and able to demonstrate a clear research proposal aligned with the institute’s focus areas.
