The NAS Public Welfare Medal is the Academy’s most prestigious award given annually to honor extraordinary use of science for the public good. Nominations for the 2027 award are accepted until October 5, 2026. The 2026 recipient was Francis S. Collins for leadership in genomics and public welfare contributions.
