STFC Work Experience programme Summer 2027

The STFC Work Experience programme offers short (1–2 week) placements where students work individually or in small groups with supervisors on projects relevant to STFC. Placements are delivered by STFC sites including Daresbury Laboratory, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and the UK Astronomy Technology Centre and are offered on-site and online. Projects cover a range of activities from data analysis and coding to engineering, design and outreach. The programme gives school-age students practical experience of working in research and technical departments within STFC.

1–2 week supervised placement working on a project relevant to STFC, practical research and technical experience, supervision and mentoring during the placement. Reasonable adjustments available on request.

Open to young people living in the UK who are in full-time education: Years 10-13 in England and Wales, S4-S6 in Scotland and Years 11-14 in Northern Ireland. Individual programmes may have further eligibility based on distance from STFC sites.
