South African National Geography Olympiad (SANGO)

The South African National Geography Olympiad (SANGO) is a national competition for school learners in South Africa covering physical and human geography topics and mapping and inquiry skills. It runs separate contest levels for Primary (Grades 6–7), Junior (Grades 8–9) and Senior (Grades 10–12). Schools participate through their teachers and learners compete on specified dates during the year. The Olympiad is run by Olympus Online Education, a South African not-for-profit company.

Participation in a national geography competition across primary, junior and senior levels; development of mapping, inquiry and geographic analytical skills.

School learners in the specified grade bands: Primary (Grades 6 & 7), Junior (Grades 8 & 9) and Senior (Grades 10, 11 & 12); schools express interest via a teacher and existing teachers may use an Olympus account to register.

Teachers express interest via the webform on the SANGO site or existing teachers register/login through the Olympus account portal.
