The ACMAD Summer School 2026 is a training programme to strengthen Africa’s capacity to apply artificial intelligence and machine-learning approaches in weather and climate modelling. It provides participants with conceptual instruction and hands-on experience using African weather and climate datasets for tasks such as forecasting, bias correction, downscaling, nowcasting and extreme-event monitoring. The programme promotes collaboration among National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), Regional Climate Centres (RCCs), universities, research institutions and relevant climate-service sectors. Participants work on practical exercises and group projects aimed at improving climate information services and early warning.

Eligibility

Designed for early- to mid-career professionals working at the intersection of climate science and data, including staff from NMHSs, RCCs, universities and research institutions with backgrounds in meteorology, climatology, hydrology, computer science, data science, geography or related fields; basic Python knowledge or willingness to complete a pre-course module is expected, plus institutional support or a clear plan to apply the training.
