Information

The BIUST-MPG African Astronomy School 2023 (BMAAS 2023) is a two-week residential astronomy school for around 30 graduate and advanced undergraduate students starting astronomy research in Africa. The programme teaches topics in astronomy, astrophysics and space science with a mix of lectures, hands-on activities, night-time observations and outreach training. The school includes social events and a weekend day trip and is hosted at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) in Palapye, Botswana.

Two weeks of course instruction, night-time observations with small telescopes, accommodation and meals on campus, social events and a weekend day trip; possible travel support for grant recipients.

Eligibility

Targeted primarily at Masters and starting PhD students; promising advanced (Honours) Bachelor students are also welcome. Applicants must be registered at an African university for a course in astronomy, (astro)physics or a closely related field.
