Information

The Geology Summer Field School is a set of intensive two-week field sessions that introduce methods in field geology and geological research across multiple subdisciplines. Each session is taught by faculty specialists and carries 2 credit hours. Sessions in 2026 include Intro to Mapping with Volcanology, Field Hydrogeology, and Field Geophysics, all held in Idaho.

Eligibility

Open to undergraduate students who have fulfilled the required prerequisites for the individual sessions or by permission of the instructors; a permit from the School of Geosciences is required prior to enrollment. Non-USF students may enroll but must pay USF tuition and activity fees.

Application

Students must obtain a permit from the School of Geosciences and register for sessions; non-USF students enroll as non-degree seeking and must pay applicable tuition and fees.
