The Undergraduate Research Internship – Computing is a 12-week summer research internship for advanced undergraduate students to do state-of-the-art research in US-based Microsoft Research Labs. Interns work with researchers, visiting faculty, postdoctoral researchers, data and applied scientists, engineers, designers, and doctoral students, and participate in mentoring, community building, and networking opportunities. The program aims to develop talent for careers in computing research and encourage participants to pursue advanced degrees in computing fields.

Eligibility

Candidates must be rising junior or rising senior students enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program majoring in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, information science or a related major by the start of the internship (approximately May). Candidates must have at least two years of programming experience and completed courses in Calculus, Probability and Statistics and/or Machine Learning or demonstrated training in at least one social science methodology.

Application

Applicants choose a track (Research, Research Software Engineering, or Research Program Management) and submit a CV/resume, up to two reference letters, a research interest statement (≤500 words) and a Leadership in Diversity statement (≤250 words).
