Information

The Gaede-Preis is an annual prize awarded by the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) for achievements in vacuum science and technology, thin films, surface physics, materials and solid-state electronics processes, and nanostructure science and technology. It recognises outstanding work from both fundamental research and applications, with a focus on younger scientists. The award is presented to a single person and is typically conferred at a DPG meeting where the recipient gives a lecture.

Benefits

Prize money (typically €5,000–€10,000), a certificate, a model of Wolfgang Gaede's first molecular pump, and presentation of the recipient's work at a suitable DPG conference.

Eligibility

Younger scientists who at the time of nomination have not yet received an offer of a permanent professorial position or an analogous position in a research institution or industry, and are generally not older than 40 years. Nominations and self-nominations are permitted.

Application

Nominations (including self-nominations) require up to five publications, a publication list, a short CV, a justification of the nomination or application, and optionally other supporting documents; submissions are sent digitally on data carrier or by e-mail to the DPG office and forwarded to the prize committee.
