Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) Germany 2026

Information

The Gustav-Hertz-Preis is an annual prize awarded by the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft to recognise an outstanding, recently completed work by one or more young physicists in experimental or theoretical physics. The award comprises a certificate with citation and a monetary prize. The prizewinner(s) are normally invited to give a lecture at a suitable DPG meeting.

Benefits

Certificate with citation, monetary prize of 7,500 Euro, and typically a lecture opportunity at a DPG meeting.

Eligibility

Nominations may be made for young physicists, including those with a completed doctorate and, in special cases, those with a completed habilitation, provided that at the time of nomination they do not hold a permanent professorship or a leading position in a non-university research institute or in industry. Self-nominations are not permitted.

Application

Nominations are submitted (no self-nomination) via the DPG office and must include a one- to two-page justification, a short laudation, a CV, optionally a publication list, and suggested referees; the prize committee reviews nominations and may obtain external reviews.
