CSIRO Undergraduate Traineeships

Internship
CSIRO Australia 2026

Information

CSIRO Undergraduate Traineeships place enrolled undergraduate students into discipline-relevant placements across research and non-research functions at CSIRO. Placements are usually 3–12 months and may fulfil a compulsory or elective placement requirement of the student’s tertiary degree, including Honours project supervision. Trainees gain practical skills, mentorship from CSIRO researchers and real-world experience directly related to their course credit. Participation requires a three-way student agreement between the student, CSIRO supervisor and university supervisor.

Benefits

Access to CSIRO researchers and mentors, practical real-world experience in the participant’s area of study, and supervision for Honours or course-placement projects.

Eligibility

Applicants must be enrolled in an Associate, Bachelor or Honours degree and the course must include a compulsory or elective student placement that contributes to course credit (including Honours project supervision). Overseas applicants must demonstrate they have sufficient funds to cover travel and living costs while in Australia.

Application

Students identify and directly approach a CSIRO staff member working in an area of interest. Applicants supply a current CV, project details, academic transcript or grades, degree enrolment information and confirmation that the placement will contribute course credit; a three-way student agreement with the university supervisor is required before starting.
