Information

The Industrial PhD Scheme funds collaborative doctoral projects where a company (Project Owner) and a degree-conferring institution jointly carry out a research-based PhD project relevant to the company. The scheme aims to strengthen research-based innovation and long-term competence building in Norwegian business and industry. Funding is available for a number of Industrial PhD projects, including earmarked funds for specified thematic areas such as quantum technology, deep technologies, circular economy and maritime research.

Eligibility

The Project Owner must be a company registered in the Norwegian Register of Business Enterprises with economic activity in Norway; at application the company must have at least two full-time employees and at project start at least three full-time employees (including the doctoral candidate). Sole proprietorships cannot be Project Owners; the doctoral project must be in collaboration with a degree-conferring institution.

Apply via the Research Council of Norway's application portal; applications are processed on an ongoing basis and projects are approved as funding is available.
