Grant
Research Council of Norway Norway 2026

Information

The Centres for Environment-friendly Energy Research (FME Society) is a multimillion research centre scheme to establish up to three new centres that deliver research-based knowledge to address societal and human dimensions of the energy transition. The centres will primarily work with social sciences and relevant humanities, and may include natural sciences and technology to support key research questions. Centres are established in collaboration between approved Norwegian research organisations and partners from industry, the public sector and other societal actors. The centres are intended to support Norway's energy policy goals and provide research and solutions for the transition to low-emission energy systems.

Approved Norwegian research organisations in binding collaboration with partners from other research organisations, the business sector, the public sector and other societal actors are eligible to apply. The Project Owner must be an approved research organisation and the project manager must be employed by the Project Owner or one of the research partners.

Two-stage application: a mandatory outline submission (outline deadline 2026-03-18) followed by a main call application; applications must be submitted by the Project Owner on behalf of all partners via the Research Council application portal.
